As a chess tutor: Spent the last 5 years as scholastic chess coach of my son starting from scratch. We attended local, state, regional and international chess tournaments many times. Over 1000+ books on chess and purchased about 100+ for my children. Purchased and used various educational and professional chess programs such as Chessbase, Fritz, Hiarcs and Rybka. I am very well familiar with Scholastic Maryland Chess programs and coaches. I read current news about top level chess on Earth and beyond(*). (*) Yes, today there are on-going chess games and tournaments between Cosmonauts in space and their Engineering support team on Earth!!!
My achievement as a coach 1) All my children know how to play chess. All my 3 sons know how to play tournament chess (with clocks and recording moves on paper). In competitive scholastic chess arena: 2)National Youth Action, Atlanta, GA, 2005 - first national US tournament for my 10 year old son. With rating ~ 480USCF he was the best in U600, U800, U1000 categories simultaneously and took overall 25th place out of ~ 175 players from all US in K-6 Open section 3) In 2007, my son took first place in Open Scholastic Rally tournaments and second in MD State Championship in K-12 4) In 2008 - 1st place in open adult U1700 section Cheasapeake Open- probably one of the most prestigious Maryland tournaments
Goal of the chess class will be mainly to introduce children (and interested adults!) into chess world and allow them to play the game of chess (at any level) in the modern format. Chess can be considered as: 1) Sport 2) Art 3) Game 4) Fun 5) Battle 6) History of Human Civilization on Earth 7) Reflection of current Human Civilization 8) Nicely carved wooden piece collection 9) Place where you can proof that you are smart or smarter than others 10) Place where you can learn that you are smart 11) Place where you can learn how to think and how to concentrate 12) Place where you can learn how to win 13) Place where you can learn how to loose 14) Place where you can learn about your own weaknesses
etc.
We try to approach the game of chess from all sides. The modern game of chess is a timed game (with the clocks). For children who just started to learn the chess: he/she needs to have "time to learn", "time to play chess" and "time for fun". We have time for all activities. Unlike many other games and many other sports, The Game of Chess or The Sport of Chess has absolutely no any boundaries for age, sex, or any physical condition of a human. Children or adults are welcome to start - Learn, play for fun, and/or play (competitively) at tournaments.
